Stand clear of the closing doors, please.

Today, I learned that being impulsive is fun.

I got off a stop early on the subway, and walked an extra five blocks, and it was fun.  Screwing standing clear of the closing doors, please.  It’s fun.

I learned a lot of other things today, as well.  I learned that Veri is a village and municipality in the Lerik Rayon of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 786.

Somehow (strange, I know), the Lerik Rayon of Azerbaijan is to me a teensy bit less interesting than getting off at the wrong train stop.  Except more people live in the LRoA than on a subway (I hope), and they probably don’t care about me very much either.  Maybe it has to do with proximity, maybe the fact that I can’t pronounce LRoA confidently, or probably correctly.  Either way, I’m definitely going to remember a wrong train stop a lot more.

We can learn a million new things a day.  But we can’t remember them all.  Sorry to break it to you.  So, we have to be selective.  And normally, because it’s the way we are, we remember things closer to home, and more valuable to our every day lives.

Self-centered?  Realistic?  Whatever.  It’s what happens.
